HTC Desire 820, Desire EYE now available unlocked, SIM-free in the U.S.
Alexandra BurlacuThe recently-launched HTC Desire 820 and Desire EYE smartphones are now available unlocked and SIM-free in the U.S. for customers who don't want to commit to carrier contracts.
The two handsets have just become available for purchase on Expansys USA, requiring no commitment whatsoever. The mid-range HTC Desire 820, for instance, is now available unlocked from Expansys for $359.99, in Milky-way Gray or Santorini White color options. The handset is also available unlocked from Newegg, but for a slightly higher $377.90 price tag.
As a reminder, the HTC Desire 820 comes with dual-SIM support and sports good specs for its category and price point. The handset comes with a 5.5-inch 720p display, an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, and is 4G LTE enabled. The smartphone also shines in the camera department, boasting a 13-megapixel rear shooter and an 8-megapixel front camera.
The HTC Desire EYE, meanwhile, comes with higher-end specs and offers the much-touted HTC EYE experience. This handset has been available in the U.S. only as an AT&T exclusive so far, selling for $150 on a two-year contract or $549 contract-free. The HTC Desire EYE is now available unlocked and SIM-free from Expansys, selling for $519.99, with two color options to choose from: Blue or Red.
In many ways, the HTC Desire EYE sports similar specifications to the top-notch HTC One M8 flagship, save for a few aspects. Unlike the UltraPixel-driven One M8, the HTC Desire EYE comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, as well as a high-end 13-megapixel front shooter. Under the hood, the Desire EYE packs a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage capacity.
The HTC Desire EYE further sports a 5.2-inch full HD 1080p display, microSD support for additional memory, and IPX7 certification for dust and water resistance. As previously mentioned, the handset also delivers the much-touted HTC EYE Experience, which aims to up the ante when it comes to smartphone photography.
While Newegg is selling the Desire 820 unlocked, it doesn't appear to have the Desire EYE in stock. Expansys USA, meanwhile, is offering both handsets unlocked and SIM-free.
