LG G Flex 2 to debut at CES 2015 in January, come as ‘major upgrade’
Alexandra BurlacuLG is reportedly getting ready to unveil the second-generation G Flex curved-display smartphone at CES 2015, which takes place in January in Las Vegas.
The original LG G Flex (see image above) made its debut back in October 2013, arriving as the second device to boast a curved display, after the Samsung Galaxy Round. While Samsung's model came with a horizontal curve, LG's flexible smartphone curved vertically, from top to bottom.
LG has been rumored for quite some time to be working on an LG G Flex 2, and more details are now available in this regards. According to a new report from Android Authority, the second-generation curved-display smartphone from LG will debut at CES 2015 and come as a "major upgrade" over its predecessor. Spec details are scarce for now, but the publication claims the LG G Flex 2 will feature a high-resolution plastic-based OLED screen. Android Authority says the display will "most likely" have a full HD resolution, although a previous report back in September claimed the display would be "better than Full HD."
On the other hand, the new report agrees with the previous one on the fact that the second-generation LG G Flex will come with a smaller form factor compared to its predecessor. The original LG G Flex sported a massive 6-inch display, which some found to be rather cumbersome despite its ergonomic curvature.
One of the highlight features of the original LG G Flex was its self-healing back coating, which automatically recovered from small scuffs and scratches. Its successor will reportedly boast this ability as well, but "in an improved form," according to Android Authority.
It remains unclear at this point just what other specs and features the new LG G Flex 2 will sport, but a "major upgrade" over its predecessor should mean notably better specs and features all around. Previous reports also indicated that the second-generation LG G Flex would also sport a more radical design, but it all remains unconfirmed at this point.
As always in such cases, make sure to take all leaks, rumors and reports with a hefty grain of salt. The CES 2015 trade show kicks off on Jan. 6, 2015, and if LG indeed plans to unveil its G Flex 2 at the event more details should become available shortly.
