Amazon Prime Now service rocks NYC, offers fast deliveries within the hour

Alexandra Burlacu

Amazon has just launched a new Prime Now delivery service, able to ship orders within the hour in select areas in New York City.

The service is available for Prime members, as expected, and is set to debut in some areas of Manhattan on Thursday, Dec. 18. While Amazon is starting small for now and the service's coverage is limited at this point, the company plans to roll out Prime Now to additional cities in 2015.

The new Amazon Prime Now is designed to handle "daily essential items," covering tens of thousands of products such as paper towels, detergent, shampoo, toys, books, batteries, and others such.

Fast deliveries are rapidly gaining momentum in today's busy world, and companies that offer same-day shipping have enjoyed great popularity among consumers. With its new Prime Now service, Amazon not only promises same-day deliveries, but it can even ship the items within one hour of placing the order. This ultra-fast one-hour delivery should make its service stand out from the crowd and is bound to attract consumers during this busy time of year, when everyone is scrambling to get as much done in as little time as possible ahead of the holidays.

The new Amazon Prime Now will be accessible via dedicated apps for iOS and Android, and the apps will also notify users when the service is ready to roll out in additional areas. For the time being, Prime Now will cater to select areas of Manhattan and will provide deliveries between 6 AM and midnight, regardless of the day of the week.

Those who want to receive their order within the hour will have to pay $7.99, while those who can wait two hours can benefit from free delivery, provided they are Amazon Prime members.

Prime membership also comes with unlimited photo streaming, access to a streaming music service, 4K Instant Video streaming, as well as other benefits.

The new Amazon Prime Now service, meanwhile, as in its early stages but is already shaping up as a very promising offering. Interested customers can download the iOS app from Apple's App Store here, or get the Android version of Prime Now from Google Play at this link.
