Nokia Lumia 520 now just $19.99 off-contract on Amazon – Here’s the catch
Alexandra BurlacuAmazon has a great deal in place for the Nokia Lumia 520 Windows Phone 8.1 smartphone, selling the handset for just $19.99 off-contract.
The Nokia Lumia 520 is definitely not one of the highest-end smartphones out there, and it's by no means a flagship device. It is, however, a capable smartphone designed with affordability in mind, and it has now become more affordable than ever.
As a reminder, the Nokia Lumia 520 originally launched with a $39.99 price tag, which was already budget-friendly to begin with. The handset was not expected to get much cheaper than that, but competition on the entry-level segment of the market has driven the price further down. Just earlier this month, Microsoft slashed the price of the device to just $29.00 off-contract, which was believed to be the lowest price point the Nokia Lumia 520 will ever see.
Nevertheless, Amazon is now undercutting Microsoft's offer and selling the Nokia Lumia 520 for a dirt-cheap $19.99 off-contract.
At such a low price point, the Nokia Lumia 520 doesn't pack any impressive hardware specs. The handset targets the entry-level segment of the market and offers a decent performance on a budget, but with no bells and whistles.
For those unfamiliar with the device, the Nokia Lumia 520 sports a 4-inch display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz, and just 512MB of RAM. Other specs include 8GB of internal storage capacity, microSD support for additional memory, a 5-megapixel rear camera (no flash), and a 1,430 mAh battery.
On the software side, the Lumia 520 rocks Microsoft's Windows Phone 8.1 and is slated to receive the latest Lumia Denim update in 2015. Lumia Denim will not work wonders for the low-end handset, but it will bring notable improvements and maximize the phone's potential.
While the $19.99 is definitely an attractive price point for a Windows Phone 8.1 device, there's a catch: Amazon is selling the Nokia Lumia 520 locked on AT&T's network. In other words, interested customers will not have to commit to a lengthy carrier contract, but getting the device contract-free doesn't mean they will be able to use it on any network. The Lumia 520 will, however, work with the GoPhone prepaid service.
On the other hand, even locked on AT&T's network, the Nokia Lumia 520 is still a bargain at $19.99 off-contract. To learn more about the device or to place an order, head over to Amazon's product page at this link.
