HP Stream Mini debuts at $180 as tiny, portable desktop
Alexandra BurlacuHP has just unveiled a tiny, affordable new desktop in the form of the HP Stream Mini, a $180 nettop with great potential for its price.
Tablets and laptops may have gained ground over traditional PCs due to their greater portability, but some consumers still prefer to rely on desktops. In this day and age, however, desktops no longer imply bulky devices, and the newly-unveiled HP Stream Mini may very well be the poster for desktop portability.
The gadget measures just over 2 inches in height and weighs in at 1.6 pounds, which makes it extremely portable. Moreover, the HP Stream Mini comes with a price tag of just $180, and packs impressive specs for that price.
More specifically, the HP Stream Mini desktop comes with a Celeron processor clocked at 1.4GHz, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of solid state storage, and Wi-Fi 802.11n, among the highlights. It may not sound like much to some, but it's good value at that price. The greatness of this gadget, however, lies in its connectivity ports.
The HP Stream Mini features twin DisplayPort and HDMI sockets to allow users to plug it directly into a TV, and also comes with four USB 3.0 ports, an SD card slot, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 40, and a 3.5mm headset jack.
Furthermore, the device comes with a USB keyboard and mouse, as well as some neat freebies courtesy of HP and Microsoft.
"The HP Stream Mini Desktop comes with value-added services including 32GB solid-state drive (SSD) for speed and reliability, 200 GB of Microsoft OneDrive storage for two years, and a $25 gift card for the Windows Store to purchase apps, Xbox games, music and more. The HP Stream Mini Desktop comes in a vibrant Cobalt Blue to match the stunning colors offered in the HP Stream family," the company details in a press release on Monday, Jan. 5, ahead of CES 2015.
The new HP Stream Mini will go on sale on Jan. 14 on HP's website, and on Feb. 8 from various retailers, sporting a price tag of $179.99. In the meantime, the company has also set up a pre-registration page so interested customers can sign up to receive more information about the device.
