T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S5 gets Android 5.0 Lollipop – OTA rolling out now
Alexandra BurlacuThe T-Mobile version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 is in for a neat treat, as Android 5.0 Lollipop is now rolling out to the device.
A number of Samsung Galaxy S5 variants have already received the update to the latest major version of Android, and the update is expanding its availability. In the U.S., carrier versions of the Samsung Galaxy S6 started to get Android 5.0 Lollipop in early February, with Verizon Wireless as the very first carrier to start rolling out the update. Sprint followed suit shortly after, and another U.S. carrier is now delivering the same treat.
More specifically, T-Mobile started to roll out Android 5.0 Lollipop over the air (OTA) to its Samsung Galaxy S5 on Wednesday, Feb. 18. The carrier's support page for the smartphone has been updated to reflect the change.
"Beginning February 18, the Samsung Galaxy S 5 will have a software update to Android version 5.0/ Baseband G900TUVU1DOB1 via OTA notification and update over Wi-Fi or Samsung Kies. This update provides new features," notes T-Mobile's updated support page for the Galaxy S5.
The new software update for the T-Mobile Galaxy S5 adds Wi-Fi calling 2.0, improves the Wi-Fi calling experience, and resolves Wi-Fi calling one-way audio and IPv6 email setup, according to the support page.
As usual, the update is rolling out over the air (OTA) and the process is gradual, so keep in mind that it may take a few days to receive the update notification.
With the Verizon and Sprint Samsung Galaxy S5 versions already updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop and the T-Mobile variant getting the update now, AT&T remains the last of the four major carriers to deliver Lollipop to its customers. AT&T, however, made no announcement in this regards, and it may be a while before it updates its Galaxy S5 to Lollipop as well.
In the meantime, T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S5 owners should receive the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop update momentarily. If you already received the new software treat, drop by our comment section below and tell us how it all fares. If not, rest assured that the update is on its way.
