Samsung has now proudly announced that its Galaxy S6 Edge won the aforementioned award at this year's MWC in Barcelona, Spain.
"The Samsung Galaxy S6 edge received the special honor of "Best New Handset, Tablet or Device" from the GSMA at Mobile World Congress 2015. The award recognizes the best new device launched during the show. This is the second consecutive year Samsung received this award, following the Samsung Gear Fit in
2014," the company boasted in an official blog post on Thursday, March 5.
"Samsung's redefined smartphones, the Galaxy S6 edge, create a new standard for design, craftsmanship and performance with the most advanced Samsung technology. The devices are not only beautifully designed, but they are more powerful than any previous Galaxy device in terms of usability and functionality. The award underscores Samsung's ongoing leadership in mobile technology development as the company strives to fulfill the diverse interests and needs of modern consumers and businesses."
"With the Galaxy S6 edge, we sought to blend technology and design in a way the world has never seen before," further touts JK Shin, president and head of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics. "We are honored that the GSMA agree that these are our most elegant and powerful devices so far."
As a reminder, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge has a 5.1-inch dual-edge curved display with a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and packs an Exynos 7420 processor under the hood, paired with 3GB of RAM. The handset comes in three internal storage configurations - 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB - but has no microSD card slot for expandable storage. Other specs include a 16-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front shooter, and a 2,600 mAh battery to keep things up and running. The smartphone also supports wireless charging (see image above).
On the software side, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge will ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop on board out of the box, and the company's own TouchWiz UI on top. The handset will also support the newly-announced Samsung Pay mobile payments system when it goes live. Exact pricing and availability details for the Galaxy S6 Edge are not available at this point.
