LG announces Android 5.0 Lollipop update for G Pad series (7.0, 8.0, 10.1)
Alexandra BurlacuLG is ready to start updating its G Pad series to Android 5.0 Lollipop starting this month, at least in its home country of South Korea.
The company has officially announced that the LG G Pad 7.0, LG G Pad 8.0, and LG G Pad 10.1 should start receiving the hotly-anticipated update very soon.
As a reminder, the LG G Pad 8.3 made its official debut back in September 2013 as the company's very first tablet in the G Pad series. LG later unveiled the G Pad 7.0, G Pad 8.0 and G Pad 10.1 tablets in May 2014.
When it comes to the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, LG has already upgraded its LG G3 flagship smartphone, as well as the G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition (GPE) last year. The company is now ready to push the update to more devices, upgrading its entire G Pad series over the next few days. You can find the official announcement from LG Korea here, and the translated version at this link.
Android 5.0 Lollipop comes as a major update to Google's popular mobile operating system, adding neat new features and improvements. One of the most noticeable changes consists of Material Design, which brings a cleaner, more visually appealing look to the UI.
In addition to Material Design guidelines, the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop also comes with changed notifications, battery optimizations, a battery saver feature, improved security, new language support, new Quick Settings, various optimizations to overall performance, and more.
LG has made no mention so far as to when the Android 5.0 Lollipop update will be ready to start rolling out to the G Pad series in other regions as well, but news of its arrival in South Korea is exciting nonetheless. Once an update is released in one region, it usually doesn't take too long before it spreads and reaches other markets.
We'll keep you up to date as soon as more information becomes available regarding the G Pad Series Android 5.0 Lollipop update in other regions, so stay tuned. In the meantime, G Pad users in Korea should get the treat by the end of the month, which means one week tops.
