HTC One E9 leaks in new image, features glossy plastic back
Alexandra BurlacuThe purported HTC One E9 smartphone has leaked online again, this time surfacing in a new image that shows the smartphone with a glossy back.
Last year, HTC launched the One E8 as the plastic variant of the premium One M8 flagship, offering virtually the same specs but at a lower price due to the polycarbonate build.
This year, the company unveiled its new HTC One M9 flagship back at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015, and a One E9 variant is also expected to make its debut soon.
Earlier this month, the yet-to-be-announced HTC One E9 surfaced on TENAA, China's equivalent of the FCC, indicating that it would arrive soon enough. The TENAA listing revealed key specifications for the handset, as well as its design.
Trusted tipster @UpLeaks has now posted a new image allegedly showing the HTC One E9. The overall form factor and design is consistent with the TENAA images, but the new leak shows the handset with a glossy back rather than a matte finish.
The tipster offers no additional information regarding the smartphone's specs, features, or expected release. The previous TENAA listing revealed that the HTC One E9 would boast a 5.5-inch QHD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, an octa-core processor, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage capacity, expandable up to 128GB via microSD. This means that the One E9 may not come with the same specifications as the One M9, as it was the case last year with the One E8 and One M8.
Based on the images from both TENAA and UpLeaks, the purported HTC One E9 seems to have a large camera module on its back, suggesting that it may rock a 20-megapixel rear shooter. The One E8 released last year has a 13-megapixel main camera.
No additional information is available at this point, and it also remains unclear for now whether the upcoming HTC One E9 will have a limited global launch like the One E8, which didn't make it to all markets. We'll keep you up to date as soon as more information becomes available, so stay tuned. As always, take all leaks, rumors and speculation with a grain of salt until a formal announcement.
