LG Watch Urbane global rollout announced, latest Android Wear brings neat features
Alexandra BurlacuThe LG Watch Urbane will soon begin its global rollout, launching with the latest Android Wear version on board to offer several neat features.
Officially unveiled back in early March at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015, the LG Watch Urbane comes as the sleek successor to the circular LG G Watch R smartwatch.
In terms of specifications, the stylish LG Watch Urbane has the same 1.3-inch P-OLED display with a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels as its predecessor, but with a nicer bezel and a slimmer profile. Under the hood, the smartwatch packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2Ghz, paired with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage capacity, while a 410 mAh battery will keep things up and running. The casing is made of metal, while the strap is leather by default. Nevertheless, owners will be able to replace the strap with any 22mm one.
LG has now announced that its Watch Urbane is ready to start its global rollout this week in South Korea, with North America, Europe and Asia set to follow in the coming weeks. The smartwatch will also become available for purchase via the Google Store this month in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Spain, the UK, and the U.S.
The LG Watch Urbane is making its commercial debut just in time to rock the very latest version of Google's Android Wear platform, packed with neat features such as Wi-Fi connectivity and drawn emojis.
"LG Watch Urbane is the first new smartwatch powered by the latest version of Android Wear which works seamlessly with smartphones running Android 4.3 and above. Some of the features available for the first time on any Android Wear device include Wi-Fi connectivity, always-on apps to keep the display from going dark when running, navigating or even grocery shopping and an improved UX that makes launching favorite apps and getting in touch with friends easier than ever before with everything now front-and-center," LG touts in a new press release on Thursday, April 23.
"The latest OS allows users to send emojis by drawing them directly on the LG Watch Urbane. Draw a smiley face, a clock showing a certain time or any other pictures and Android Wear will match your drawing to the closest Unicode emoji for sending to another Android Wear watch, smartphone, or computer. Other improvements include the ability to change the font size and see notifications even when looking at another function on the display, such as directions. What's more, the screen on the LG Watch Urbane can now be set to lock automatically when it is removed from the wrist."
LG is also throwing in its own neat features such as LG Call and LG Pulse, aiming to further enhance the user experience. With LG Call, users will be able to quickly access recent calls and favorite contacts, while LG Pulse will continuously monitor the wearer's heart rate during exercise, delivering a report afterwards.
No pricing details are available at this point for the LG Watch Urbane, but the company should offer more information shortly and we'll keep you up to date as soon as we learn more.
