Gaming Apps Hits High Sales Record; Minecraft in the Lead
Staff ReporterGaming apps have topped the revenue charts in the U.S. for the past two years, but their reach is expanding internationally.
According to 24wallst, about 81 percent of the top 100 games in China were gaming apps, based on the second quarter of the fiscal year reports. During the current third quarter, about 78 percent of the top-grossing apps in the U.S. are expected to be games.
Think Gaming reports that in the category of Top Grossing Games in the U.S., "Clash of Clans" is in the lead with an average of about $1.6 million revenue every day. It also has a 60,145 new downloads just for July 13.
"Game of War: Fire Age" is on the second place with an average of about $1.1 million daily revenue. It also just 42,000 downloads just for July 13 alone.
Other games also reached the top 10 including, "Candy Crush Saga," "Candy Crush Soda Saga," "Big Fish Casino - Free Slots, Vegas Slots," "Boom Beach," "MARVEL Contest of Champions," "DoubleDown Casino," "Slotmania" and "Jurassic World: The Game."
On the other hand, "Minecraft: Pocket Edition" leads the pack on the Top Paid Games in the U.S category with an average of $90,000 daily revenues. "Lifeline," "The Game of Life Classic Edition," "Trivia Crack" and "Five Nights at Freddy's" also made it to the top list.
Strategy Analytics, a research and consulting firm, reported that the gaming apps will continue to dominate in a global scale. They added that the revenues will start from the introduction of the free games that will lead to in-app purchases.
According to chief researcher Joshua Martin, they predict that the game downloads for 2015 will exceed 100 billion units. With this type of expansion, "fewer and fewer companies and fewer and fewer categories" will actually get massive revenues from these downloads.
