Microsoft has not been on top of the smartphones competition. They tried partnering with Nokia to create the Microsoft smartphone, but it did not reach the market broadly.
However, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella states that the company is still pushing through with its plans to develop their smartphone line.
Nadella has highlighted over the years his goal to create new product categories that the company can build on.
"If there are a lot of OEMs, we'll have one strategy. If there are no OEMs, we'll have one strategy," Nadella said of Windows Phone's future.
Nadella's stand on the Windows Phone just shows how committed they are in creating new devices. Microsoft still plans to lead the tech industry in terms of innovation. During the launch of Surface Pro 2, Nadella said they would want to set an example for hardware manufacturers. The CEO added that they are breaking traditional workspace limitations to cultivate cross-culture apps.
The future of the Windows Phones has been talked about by the critics for quite some time now. According to Extreme Tech, IDC released its statistics on the market share of the Windows phone. With the extremely low numbers, Windows 10 could even be considered dead before it is even launched.
Extreme Tech also noted that a lot of tech journalists favor the Windows phone. The UI and the style are both attractive. The OS fits perfectly on the device compared to the desktop computer version. However, the main problem for Microsoft is that is has not really released its flagship phone yet.
Nonetheless, Nadella promises Windows fans that they are already attracting developers to join their team.
"Gaming will always be a scenario and there will be other entertainment broadly. But, with the [first version] of HoloLens, I want us to push a lot more of the enterprise usage," he said.
