Apple Pay Released in the United Kingdom; New Payment Method Introduced

Staff Reporter

Apple has introduced new payment methods and launched Apple Pay in the United Kingdom on Tuesday.

The payment system allows owners of iPhone6, iPhone 6s Plus and Apple Watch to make payments without entering the details for their credit and debit cards. This innovative technique of paying involves payment technology and security features that are built into iPhone, Apple Watch or iPad.

In-app purchases can be made with Apple Pay on iPhone 6, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3.

In order to set up the Apple Pay option, the user has to access the Passbook and add a credit or debit card from the  iTunes account, or enter the security code on the card.

As far as security is concerned, Apple guarantees secure payments. According to Apple's official website, the account number is stored in the Secure Element. The Apple device uses encrypted data for the assigned account and while making a purchase, the Device Account Number is used for payment processing. Therefore, debit or credit card numbers are never transmitted through payment, or revealed to merchants.

In case the user loses their device, the Find My Phone option allows suspension of Apple Pay by putting the phone in Lost Mode. The user can prevent any payments on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch with the use of iCloud.

In order to guarantee privacy, Apple does not save any transaction information from the user. According to Apple, the only  transactions Apple does store are the recent purchases, which are stored in Passbook for the purposes of providing convenience to the users.

Apple indicates that the user's ability of not having to reveal personal information via credit or debit cards is a privacy conserver.

The app works with VISA cards, Master Card Cards and American Express cards.

Stores who accept Apple Pay can download the payment mark and use it on their terminal screen, on their website or email, in order to let their customers know they can make payments this way.

According to PC Advisor, among the stores that accept Apple Pay are the Apple Store, ETSY, ZARA, Starbucks, Disney, JD Sports, Uber and others. Banks which support Apple Pay include the Bank of America, Commerce Bank, Key Bank, BB&T, USAA and others.
