SanDisk Introduces the new iNAND 7232 With 32GB Minimum Capacities
Staff ReporterSanDisk, one of the largest hardware manufacturers for memory storage in smartphones, just launched its newest chip, the iNAND 7232 which boasts more storage and faster memory than ever before.
According to Extreme Tech, SanDisk is shipping the chips in 32GB up to 128GB capacities. This is a big leap from where they were before with the iNAND 7132 which only has a minimum capacity of 16GB.
The new flash memory is a great evolution in terms of its hardware design. With the higher memory storage, the 16GB smartphones can be obsolete in the near future. This possibility is a welcome development for smartphone users everywhere. There are existing smartphones in the market that are receiving criticisms because of their low storage, just like the iPhone 6 which has a meager capacity of 16GB.
Apple and other smartphone brands continue to offer a lower storage capacity of 16GB because they are still utilizing the previous iNAND model. At the same time, it is much cheaper to use this hardware.
On average, higher capacity storage hardware just cost around $5 to $10 from the manufacturers, but once they are launched in the market, they are sold about ten times the original price. If this is the case, smartphone creators can make a 90 percent profit just by using the basic iNAND design when the consumers pay $200 for the device.
The new iNAND 7232 features the second-gen SmartSLC technology made by SanDisk. It is now considered as the fastest embedded flash storage device in the market.
Christopher Bergey, SanDisk vice president and general manager, said that they created this expanded flash memory to respond to the ever-growing demand for higher capacity storage. He added that the new iNAND 7232 will not only enable mobiles to have a robust storage, but will also give users improved device performance.
