Following complaints and a lawsuit, Apple has recently release their latest iOS 9 update - the iOS 9.2. So is it better than the 9.1 update? Let's break down the new features and problems the former versions have given the public. Let's go back to when it was first released, one of the problems encountered before with the iOS 8 is the amount of free space it needs before it allows your device to upgrade to that version.
This was solved in iOS 9, where the amount of free space needed was decreased; from the 4.6GB needed for an upgrade to the iOS 8, the needed available space became 1.3GB only. The next feature iOS 9 has is Siri with a lower error rate, universal search screen and anonymous search plus with Siri being context sensitive.
In addition to notes on paint, sketches and etc., Apple's Maps now also include built in public transportation directions in cities around the world. iOS 9 also features a News app which works like Flipboard and/or News Republic. This feature is not available to all users, though it was initially made available only to users in the US, UK and Australia.
The iOS 9 for iPad also features a split screen function where users can now be able to see two apps at the same time instead of switching from one app to the other. The onscreen keyboard also was updated with additional shortcuts in the Quick Type predictions bar. The battery life was also taken into consideration with the iOS 9 plus a new power mode was added where it is able to provide additional three hours to the battery life.
An ad-blocking app was also made available for the users, becoming apparently too popular and in demand that Apple's servers weren't prepared for, therefore failing to meet the demand and it broke under pressure. As a result, iPhone and iPad users all around the word were greeted with "Software Update Failed" messages.
Then another problem appeared when an update was downloaded to iTunes where the phone appears frozen. Several days later, a security issue was found wherein hackers will be able to access personal info from a locked device using Siri; the update of iOS 9 - iOS 9.0.1 came out during this time and although it didn't address the Siri issue, it did address the frozen issue previously detected.
A month later and the new version of the iOS 9.0.2, it includes improvements and fixes to problems preciously reported by users; this included fixes for the stability of Podcast, iCloud backup issues, and problems with iMessage activation. Several days later, Apple was officially sued because of an iOS 9 feature that caused then to incur an excessively high bill due to data charges.
This problem occurred because of the "Wi-Fi Assist" feature which is automatically enabled by iOS 9, that enables the phone to switch its connection to a cellular connection if it detects that the Wi-Fi signal is weak.
Apple issued a public announcement following that lawsuit explaining the issue. Several days, iOS 9.2 is announced, the earlier versions of the OS except the version iOS 9.1 has all been decommissioned so it isn't available for download anymore as a preparation for its arrival .
The iOS 9.2 version for now is only available for beta testers. The latest version is said to have several fixes and an update to the Safari View Controller where they have added support for third party extensions.
Aside for the fixes in battery life, security issues and installation size, the new version features "App Thinning" which makes installing apps from third-party developer take less space by only allowing the necessary assets needed based on your device.
App Thinning also will only download image and music files when needed, for example images and sound files for games will not be downloaded until you need them or until you reached the level where it is needed. IOS 9 apps also will utilize using the phone's CPU and GPU to enable better performance with faster scrolling and smoother animations.
