Samsung Unveils Another Clamshell Flip Phone

Mary Cris Balancio

Samsung, in what seems to be a half unexpected, half unbelievable move plus secretly anticipated by some, unveils their new clamshell flip phone. Yes that's right. It seems like Samsung is not only bent on developing high end flat touch screen smartphones but also is on the run to bring back a bit of the past with a touch of the present.

The model which is making part of the public think it is inspired by Adele's single "Hello", based on released pictures looks like it could be the clamshell version of Samsung's Galaxy S6; having the same combination of glass and metal in its design.

According to reports that are currently circulating around, the new phone will be called SM-W2016. The flip phone will have two 3.9 inch Super AMOLED displays; have a 1280 x 768 pixels resolution and a numeric keypad. Its primary camera is 1080p and will have a 5MP secondary camera. It will be having an internal storage of 64GB and a RAM of 3GB. It will run Android 5.1 Lollipop on a 64-bit octa-core Exynos 7420 processor.

The move to bring back a flip phone to the market might be surprising but not for those in Korea, as Samsung earlier released another flip phone, the Galaxy Folder into their markets last July; and in other parts of Asia where the clamshell design is very much still viable. The SM-W2016 phone might end up the same as there is no news whether Samsung will be bringing it to the European or the US market. The public can wait as it might happen, seeing as it is not only Adele who has been seen using a flip phone but some other celebrities as well as others, making it possible for a revival of the flip phone design in the European and US markets.

If the SM-W2016 gets released in the US, it could be clamshell phones' comeback. Having a boasting power that could rival the Galaxy S6; it could be the most, if not one of the more, high-end flip phones ever launched.
