Facebook To Make Breakups A Little Less Hurtful
Mary Cris BalancioFor some, breakups could be nasty and a bit depressing than they would dare admit. Most people would just make sure to go out of their usual way to avoid meeting their exes and seeing them anywhere.
However, things aren't as simple as before, because while they do not meet their exes personally, they still get a glimpse of them through their social network accounts. And seeing the exes going on with their life could make things even taste bitterer than they have expected.
With this in mind, Facebook has just made another tool to help in these awkward, hurtful situations to help their users more. According to Facebook's Product Manager Kelly Winters, the social network has just started testing out recently developed tools that are created to help people how to manage their interactions with their exes on Facebook once their relationship ends.
She stated that once a user changes their relationship status in Facebook to indicate that they are no longer in a relationship, they will be prompted to try the social network's new tools. The new tools or we should say feature will ask the user whether they would like to see less content, updates and etc. about a person which happens to be the ex, in their newsfeeds.
The user can also ask Facebook to stop suggesting the ex's name when their friends or associates are tagging their photos or people on their status updates or shout outs. The user is also given the option to "untag" their selves in posts that also include that dreadful ex's name and/or limit the appearance of those kinds of posts in your feed.
They can also keep all their recent updates from photos, to status updates to videos from their exes. The user can also edit who can see their past posts that are connected to their ex. The new feature will also allow exes to still be friends on Facebook with several restrictions and without having to unfriend them on the social networking site.
Winters went on to say that these tools are part of the company's efforts to help their users going through a difficult time in their lives. The company hopes that it can help those who just recently came from a bad breakup feel more at ease, comforted, and in control. For now these new tools are being tested out in the US and only available to mobile users.
