EE Power Bars Recalled Due To Safety Issues
Mary Cris BalancioPortable smartphone chargers are popular especially to those who are always on the move or are too busy to properly charge their devices. While some may have succeeded in this endeavor, that is not the case for the company, EE. Just recently they have started recalling all their power bars over concerns of overheating and fire risk.
The EE Power bar is the company's version of a portable smartphone charger. It has portable compact cylinders that have a 2600 mAh battery that can completely charge one smartphone via its micro USB cable. It also has an LED indicator feature to let the user know how much charge is left. During its launching in April, the mobile company has given away tons of these power bars to consumers for free.
The mobile network has urged their consumers to stop using their devices immediately and to visit one of their stores to return it. Those who are unable to get to one of their stores are urged to call their information line. This move, which the tech company is calling a voluntary and precautionary action, is EE's way of trying to keep their consumers safe. EE said that they are sorry for the inconveniences that this might cause, but the customer's safety is the company's priority for now.
Earlier in August, a specific batch of the said power bars was deemed to be faulty so the batch, particularly the "E1-06" models, was recalled. However, it seems like the fault is not exclusive to said batch, and this led to the total recall of the power bars.
As of now, there is no exact information on how many of these power bars really pose as a fire risk, but EE has already admitted that they have identified several units that have this problem. The mobile company said that they would also give all of their customers returning their power bars a £20 GBP voucher.
