Frontier Developments announced the release date of Horizons, the second season of their space adventure simulation game, Elite: Dangerous, for the Xbox One.
The game was released for Xbox One in October last year, and players can now expect their first major update for Elite: Dangerous in two weeks' time. The update has an original release date of April 2016, along with the forthcoming 2.1: The Engineers expansion, but both were delayed. "What it means is that 2.1 is pushed out by around six weeks. This is to push the quality up, which is a good thing for the game," Frontier Developments CEO David Braven said in a Reddit post.
The Horizon expansion, Planetary Landings, allows players to 'journey seamlessly' from space to surface, VG 24/7 reported. This also allows players to land anywhere on simulated planets and moons on the Milky Way, with the help of the all-terrain SRV Surface Recon Vehicle, without loading times or breaks in gameplay.
On Frontier Developments' Elite: Dangerous season pass site, the developer gives the players a lowdown on what to expect for upcoming 2.1: The Engineers patch, stating an expanded mission system and 'game-changing loot'. Also staying true to the 'Engineer' name, players can also craft weapons and modules for their spacecrafts and 'build a ship unlike any other'.
Elite: Dangerous is the fourth game of the Elite series, and started as a Kickstarter campaign in 2012, gaining more than 25,000 backers and $2 million funds. The PC version was released a few months before the Xbox One port. The game was highly rated by game publications, with PC Gamer's Chris Thursten calling it "potentially a classic", and Andy Kelly of Gamesradar describing it as a "welcome return" of the Elite franchise.
Planetary Landings and The Engineers expansion will be available for Xbox One players on June 3. PC gamers can get a copy of The Engineers on May 26, along with major patch updates.
