The Energizer Xbox One 2X Smart chargers have been the target of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission recently. The announcement triggered the company to recall the particular product which started earlier this week.

Over 130,000 Energizer Xbox One 2X Smart Chargers are under recall by Performance Designed Products. This recall entails consumers in possession of one or more Xbox One controller chargers immediately stop using the battery chargers and to contact the maker of the chargers.

Several complaints were raised against Xbox One chargers for overheating. In the US alone approximately 121,000 units were reported to be affected. An estimated 7,250 units were also found defective in Canada and another 2,560 units in Mexico. With the increasing complaints, the Safety Commission intervened as the faulty chargers pose numerous hazards to users of the device.

This recall was conducted voluntarily by Performance Designed Products, the company who made the Xbox One Chargers under Consumer Product Safety Commission's (CPSC) Fast Track Recall Process. The Fast Track Recall is initiated by firms, who agreed to work with CPSC to quickly announce the recall and the solution to protect consumers.

The recalled Xbox One chargers are made of a black plastic and measure approximately 3.5 inches X 5 inches X 11 inches. The Energize logo is indicated on the charger's label. The defective chargers have item number 048-052-NA, printed on the bottom part of the chargers. The recalled chargers can be used to hold up to two Xbox controllers charging status.

The defect was first discovered when some users raised the issues of chargers overheating and even deforming. There were six recorded complaints of the Xbox One chargers giving off a burning smell. Fortunately, there was no recorded incident or report that indicated users getting injured from the faulty chargers.

According to wkbw, consumers with recalled chargers were encouraged to contact Performance Designed Products at 800-263-1156 from 10 a.m. to 4 PM. A refund will be provided to Xbox One users who purchased defective charger units. The Xbox One Charger units sold at various technology-oriented stores nationwide. They were also available online at Amazon.com, Best buy, GameStop and other online distributors from February 2016 through February 2017 and cost approximately $40. The Xbox One Charger Controllers were manufactured in China.
