The Verizon strike has been running for more than a month and so many things have happened already. Even though the negotiations between Verizon and CWA have started, the striking workers are reportedly trying to keep the pressure as talks continue.
There are more than 40,000 workers that support the cause, and now, they are also asking for politician's support. According to Fortune, Syracuse, N.Y. city council cast their votes for the workers and allegedly condemns Verizon for a "campaign to destroy good jobs."
"It's great to get that support from our public officials to see that they're standing behind us for good middle-class jobs and against the corporate greed of Verizon," Verizon employee Nikki Tonas said. She is a 19-year striker ho works as a fiber network technician.
However, Verizon disputes some of the statements on the resolution. "Our company is continually lauded as a great place to work, and that's why more than 16,000 employees started new careers with Verizon in 2015, including more than 1,000 U.S. veterans," the unnamed spokesman said.
The website also reported that the workers are still persuading the workers to fight for their rights. Meanwhile, the effects of the strike are slowly culminating on the company's financial status.
Verizon has said to already lose 5% "in value" since the protest. On the other hand, James Gardler of Pennlive wrote that this strike is worth more than the demands of the working middle-class and that they deserve better.
The blogger revealed some of the incidents that happened on the duration of the strike, including Verizon contractor being arrested, small businesses being affected, and the long term cause and effect of the strike.
More updates about the Verizon strike very soon so keep those eyes open.
