'Clash of Clans' May Update: Friendly Challenge Tweaks, Miner Troops and Baby Dragons

Supercell's flagship mobile game Clash of Clans released their newest update, following a scheduled maintenance, making sure that that everything will run smoothly once the update goes live.

This site has reported previously that the main feature of the new update would be the introduction of the new Friendly Challenge. The Friendly Challenge allows clanmates to attack one another without any penalties, which can be used to either test out new layouts or to challenge one another just for fun. The new feature got both positive and negative reviews from players, and Supercell addressed these concerns in a separate blog post.

Supercell has set a 24-hour restriction on newly modified layouts for players with Town Hall level 9 and above. No restrictions were set for lower level Town Halls.

In line with the layout cooldown, scouting will no longer allow players to see an opponent's war base during Preparation Day, and will show the active Village layout instead. "This way, players can still get a good sense for the strength of War Bases they are facing," Supercell explained, "but can't copy exact layouts for practice." There will be no changes when it comes to Scouting during Battle Day.

Supercell has also made new units available, with the addition of Baby Dragons and Miners.

Baby Dragons will be available at Town Hall 9, and would need Barracks level 11 and takes up 10 slots in the housing space. Baby Dragons cost 15,000 elixir to make, and has 1,200 hit points. The unit gets a damage boost when deployed on its own, or when there are no other aerial units nearby.

Miners will be available at Town Hall 10, and requires Barracks level 12. Miners can burrow under walls to attack and cause damage once they appear on the other side of the wall. Miners cost 4,200 elixir to make, takes up five housing slots, and takes only five minutes to produce.

The addition of new units will definitely make way for new strategies on the battlefield. Combined with the new Friendly Challenge changes, and the addition of the Skeleton spell, and new troop levels, which was discussed in the previous post, Clash of Clans will surely stay as a popular mobile game for a long time to come.
