Epic Games Reveals More Information on Fortnite's iPad and iPhone Release Amid EU's Ruling on iPadOS
Austin JayFortnite gamers and fans in the European Union are going to feel the re-appearance of the classic Epic Games battle royale game on iOS devices, according to the developer of the game. Back in 2020, Fortnite was removed from the App Store, causing a huge uproar among the Fortnite gamers who once played that battle royale game on their Apple devices. After a long battle between Epic and Apple, the game will finally be back and available on iPhones and iPads.
Today, the European Commission said that iPads will also need to comply with the Digital Markets Act 🙌

We’re moving full steam ahead to bring Fortnite and the @EpicGames Store to iPhones in the EU soon and iPads this year! 🎉 https://t.co/MHh6EGVinC
After the new Fortnite Game was published in September 2017, the players, mostly the mobile version of users, were addicted to it. The skin Galaxy Epic from Samsung, made in 2018 as a collaboration between Epic and Samsung, helped Fortnite grow more popular among mobile gamers.
However, Epic Games fiddled with Apple's in-app payment system, which indirectly led to the game being kicked out of the App Store. This fundamentally injured Fortnite's relationship with Apple. Consequently, the people's sentiments were spoiled, and feelings were exasperated due to this decision, which led to a blockage of Fortnite iOS games on Apple devices.
Despite these difficulties, there was cause for optimism on April 29, 2024, when Epic Games said that Fortnite would soon be making a comeback to iPhones in the EU, with iPads to follow later in the year.
The Digital Markets Act (DMA), which requires Apple to permit alternate app shops, like Epic's Game Store, on its devices, is the cause of this fascinating development.
Epic Games acknowledged the importance of this ruling and conveyed its appreciation for the EU designating iPadOS as a digital gatekeeper under the DMA. For European fans of Fortnite, the company's announcement of bringing the game to the Epic Games Store in the EU and then iPads was a huge step forward.

The legal confrontation between Epic and Apple has been ongoing for some time. Apart from the App Store's anticompetitive practice, Epic alleges Apple of imposing excessive restrictions on the app submission and data sharing processes. In spite of the fact that Apple won the case with an overwhelming majority, the jury's decision changed the course of business for the tech giant; it was forced to allow developers to offer users an alternative to the built-in payment option, thus significant advantages for Epic and other creators.
It is clear that Epic Games is determined to take on Apple through its own game store as it gets ready to return Fortnite to iPhones and iPads in the EU. In spite of Apple's actions thus far, such as closing Epic Games' developer account, Epic is unwavering in its resolve to give users access to Fortnite on all of Apple's major platforms.
Very soon, "Fortnite" will be available to EU iPhones and iPads, which shows that Epic Games is determined to give all players all over the world the ultimate gaming experience. As a result of the DMA opening up new avenues for competition and consumer choice, Fortnite players can anticipate returning to exhilarating experiences on their preferred Apple devices.
