"Game of Thrones" Season 6 marks the return of Benjen Stark. But according to reports, there will be a huge twist about his comeback. The question "who is Benjen and who is Coldhands" started swirling on the Internet. This article might contain spoilers for the upcoming episode so kindly read at own risk.
Those who were not able to catch up on GoT might ask who is the controversial character. So here it is, as per Telegraph, Benjen Stark (Joseph Mawle) is the youngest brother of Eddard (Ned) Stark. He is also the uncle of the six Stark children who are the late Robb ,Bran, Rickon, Sansa, Arya, Robb and the allegedly illegitimate child, Jon.
He was first and last seen in the first season, which was way back 2011. How did he disappear?
Known as a loyal member of the Night's Watch, he went to Winterfell to visit his family and inspired Jon to "travel to the Wall and 'take the black." Unfortunately, he was gone missing after going on an expedition beyond The Wall with Othor and Jafer Flowers, who were later found dead. He was never found.
But despite his disappearance, the website noted that uncle Benjen was mentioned on the last episodes of Season 5 when Jon Snow was betrayed by Olly and Allison Thorne and stabbed to death- well, almost.
They lured the beloved character by claiming that they had seen Benjen. But apart from that, Bran also had flashbacks that depicted a younger version of Benjen.
But on the other hand, who is Coldhands? According to the website, George R.R. Martin created the character as mysterious and seemingly unfriendly. But despite the outside appearance, he is said to be friendly.
There have been plausible speculations that Benjen Stark could be Coldhands. It has been rooted to the fact that he explained how the Children of the Forest "saved him from becoming a full wight".However, Vulture reported the Martin already debunked the theory that the uncle is Coldhands.
Viewers might see more of Benjen in the upcoming episodes of Game of Thrones. Those who would like to see a glimpse of episode 7, entitled "The Broken Man" should view the video posted on YouTube.
"Game of Thrones" Season 6 air every Sunday at 9PM, only on HBO.
