The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine Boss Guide: How to Defeat the Cloud Giant

Jazz Rosin

We've covered how to kill Shaelmaar and Dettlaff in The Witcher 3's newest DLC, Blood and Wine. Today we' will go through the steps on how to beat the Cloud Giant boss.

After climbing the huge beanstalk with Syanna during the Beyond Hill and Dale quest, the Cloud Giant will come charging at you. It's best to prepare first before scaling the beanstalk, as there will be no time for you to do so afterwards.

Preparation

You would need to use two main spells against this boss. Quen, as usual, will protect you against the giant's wide swings. The Cloud Giant boss is weak against Igni, so use that to your advantage. The boss is also weak against Dancing Star bombs and ogroid oil, so keep that in mind before charging ahead.

Cloud Giant's Moves

Compared to the other bosses, Cloud Giant's attacks are easy to avoid. Players would find the Cloud Giant to be similar to Golyat, the first boss in Blood and Wine.

The Cloud Giant has a powerful jumping attack followed by a pound. You should be able to roll to the side to avoid that.

The boss will also swing at you with his huge hoe. Back away from the blow instead of rolling, because you will still get hit that way, and that hoe will hurt Geralt a lot. (That didn't sound right.)

When the Cloud Giant disappears, stay alert. He will charge at you from below, and will eat a huge chunk out of your HP. So activate your trusty Quen and roll out of the way as soon as his shadow appears below you. Remember, time your dodges carefully or you won't be able to beat this boss.

How to Take the Cloud Giant Down

You will fight the Cloud Giant in an area littered with piles of metal. Use this to take out the boss the quickest way possible.

Lightning will hit the metal piles from time to time, and typically, you would want to avoid them. This time, though, you would actually need to get close to them to defeat the boss.

Stay close to the metal piles, but not close enough to hurt yourself, of course, and let the Cloud Giant come at you with his huge weapon. There is a huge chance that the Cloud Giant will hit the pile with his hoe, stunning him for a few seconds. Take this opportunity to lay the smack down on the giant, hitting him with Igni and your sword. It should take at least three times before the Cloud Giant goes down using this method.

Enjoy your victory. Oh, and that infamous scene with Syanna at the end.
