Apple is reportedly developing a new external 5k display that has a powerful GPU on its screen, according to ZDNet.
The Cupertino-based company was allegedly working on an improved Thunderbolt Display that has a 5120x2880 pixels screen resolution. Also, they have planned to fuse in an external GPU in in it to make the display ready for the future, according to NDTV.
As of the moment, their 27-inch Thunderbolt Display costs $999 and is one of their fast-selling products out there. It was believed to have exceeded the iMac and MacBook Pro's screen quality.
The company's goal to integrate external GPU compatibility for Macs was because of the developing graphic needs. Eventually, the devices will require up to 5K number of pixels to support high-resolution displays along with powerful GPUs.
Meanwhile, the idea challenges Apple on how to retain MacBook's trademark light and thin design. The company has been discovering various methods of launching a new line for their 5K display equipped laptops, according to 9to5mac.
Furthermore, it was reported that only one GPU can be utilized at a time, either the built-in one or from the external display as part of the new OS X version requirement. Also, the display's panel will be equipped with the same Retina iMac that is expected to feature a similar DCI P3 color vibrancy.
The information with regards to how the Apple Display can be connected to the Mac remained unclear. A report suggested that the solution draws to connecting a USB-C port through a Thunderbolt 3 will work.
On the other hand, Apple will allegedly change the product name once it releases and will no longer have the "Thunderbolt" along with it. Although the company hasn't released official information on how the product's physical aspect will look like, consumers expect changes.
Apple was rumored to allegedly launch their external 5k display along with Mac's new software updates and redesigned MacBook Pro in fall.
