'Persona 5' News, Release Date: Atlus Shows Off Gameplay Trailer at E3 2016
Jazz RosinAtlus has showcased an extended gameplay trailer one of its biggest titles, "Persona 5," at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3.
Fans have flocked to the Atlus booth to get a glimpse of the much awaited JRPG.
The whole clip is in Japanese, including the text dialogue, which could mean that the English translation for the North American version is still in the works, hence the delay. Despite that, the footage still gives the fans a good idea on what to expect from the game when it ships on Valentines Day next year.
The game footage started off in the classroom, where the protagonist gets his mission from a text message on his smartphone, a vital tool in the game.
The classroom questions have levelled up as well, showing diagrams instead of text.
The game clip went on to show other shops and places that the protagonist can go to, like the clinic, cinema and more. Just like the previous games, the protagonist can take on part-time jobs to earn experience points for the protagonist's social qualities and help the players progress through the game.
The footage then shifts to action mode as the protagonist, now known as "The Phantom," and his friends dive into Kamoshida Palace, one of the many dungeons in "Persona 5."
The game demo showed off some fancy new moves. The protagonist can take cover and sneak up on enemies to get combat advantage. He can also use his Third Eye ability to progress through the dungeon, and in the video, his Third Eye helped him figure out which lever to pull to open the gates.
Enemy negotiation, reminiscent of the first "Persona" games, is making a comeback on "Persona 5". An enemy is seen talking to The Phantom and making negotiations, eventually joining up with the player.
Party members can also give up their turn to make the next party member's attack more powerful. This feature is called the "Baton Touch".
"Persona 5" is a huge leap forward from the previous titles, according to IGN. Atlus has managed to tweak the battle mechanics and the visuals without losing the trademark "Persona" charm.
An English subbed version of the "Persona 5" trailer was also shown at E3, Persona Central reported. The trailer explains the background of the story in more detail to the North American audience, as well as the protagonist's struggle to lead double lives.
"Persona 5" will be out in the US on February 14, 2017.
