'Resident Evil 7' Producer Disappointed About 'Silent Hills' Cancellation
Jazz Rosin"Resident Evil 7" producer Masachika Kawata said that he loved Hideo Kojima's "Silent Hills" playable teaser demo "P.T," according to a recent interview.
The producer expressed his appreciation for the demo teaser, according to Gamespot. Kawata also said that he was one of the many people who were unhappy when Konami pulled the plug on the "Silent Hills" project.
"I think it looked really great, and it had so much promise," Kawata said. "And I was unfortunately very disappointed that it didn't come to fruition."
Fans have begun to compare the "Resident Evil 7" demo with the "P.T." demo, pointing out connections between the two teasers. Push Square reported that "Resident Evil 7" aims to finish what "Silent Hills" tried to accomplish before it was cancelled.
Very much like "P.T.", the VR demo shown at E3 will only serve as a playable demo, and will not be included in the game, Gamerant reported.
The demo, which is officially titled "Resident Evil 7: The Beginning Hour," will be available to download for free for all Playstation Plus subscribers.
However, Kawata clarified that "Resident Evil 7" was already in development when "P.T." was released in 2014, and was surprised when he found out that "P.T." is in first-person as well.
Kawata also confirmed that the game's content will be very different from the "Silent Hills" demo. Playstation Lifestyle reported that there will still be an combat element to the title, but it will not be like the recent "Resident Evil" games.
"One of the things I would like to emphasize about this is that it's not always about going in guns blazing," Kawata said. "It might actually be to your advantage to try to run away from combat at certain times, or use items against your enemies in a different way."
"Resident Evil 7" will be available on January 24, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR, and Xbox One.
