'Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast' Review: Quirky, Full of Fan Service, And Surprisingly Good
Jazz RosinCombining a heavy metal icon and an RPG game isn't really something that people think would work. "Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast" is exactly that, and suprisingly enough, the game turns out to be pretty good.
"Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast" is a free-to-play mobile RPG game developed by Roadhouse Games. It is available for Android and iOS, and as the title implies, the game is based on the lyrics and album art of iconic heavy metal band Iron Maiden.
The players control Eddie, Iron Maiden's immortal mascot, as he travels through various realms inspired by the band's music.
According to the Google Play description, Eddie comes in "many shapes and forms" inspired by Iron Maiden's rich history. Fans of the band will recognize Eddie's forms from the group's famous songs like "The Number of the Beast" and "Powerslave".
The battle system is all too familiar for seasoned RPG fans. The fights are short and quick, Android Community reported, but requires great timing to maximize damage against foes.
Eddie will be squaring off against enemies which are also inspired by Iron Maiden's music, such as Horus, the Wickerman and the Axis General. Deafeated enemies can be turned into allies and can be taken into the next battle.
There are also five different classes to choose from: Warrior, Magus, Sentinel, Gunner or Assassin.
As for the soundtrack, we won't expect less from a game that is heavily influenced by one of the greatest heavy metal bands of all time. Hardcore Iron Maiden fans will get plenty of fanservice from this game, and there are even unreleased versions of classic songs in the game.
The game is completely free-to-play, but of course as with all RPG mobile games, in-app purchases are present. However, purchases are not necessary to enjoy the game, and the wait time for the energy to replenish is pretty fair, Tech Times reported.
"Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast" is a quirky mobile RPG game that has something to offer to everyone, from hardcore Iron Maiden fans to RPG aficionados.
