'Tom Clancy's The Division' Continues To Disappoint; 'Underground' DLC Gets Negative Reviews From Critics
Jazz RosinWhen Ubisoft released the latest DLC for its massively popular shooter game "Tom Clancy's The Division," it was hoping to make up from the previous disaster from the "Conflict" patch. Unfortunately, the "Underground" DLC also failed to deliver.
The first paid expansion for "The Division" offered new gear sets, a brand new Incursion, and a whole new Underground Operations experience. Despite all of these promising changes, "Underground" is still a huge disappointment for fans of the game.
IGN gave the "Underground" DLC a score of 5.8 out of 10, a mediocre rating by the site's standards. While the new update delivers a streamlined "The Division" experience, it did not offer anything particularly rewarding to justify the endless grinding players would have to do in his game.
"This is the same combat you've already experienced, just in a dingier, more confined setting," IGN's Vince Ingenito said on the site's review.
Matchmaking proved to be a huge issue in "Underground," mixing people "of low and high gear, creating a poor experience for both."
Playing solo isn't that fun either, as every "Underground" mission is a "no respawn" area. In order to get the experience for that mission, players would have to go through the entire length without dying, or else they won't get anything at all.
High-Def Digest has given the "Underground" DLC two and a half stars out of five, stating that it has not added much to "The Division."
The new Incursion Dragon's Nest is "worth doing once and then putting on the shelf forever," offering no replayability value.
"There's not a lot to distinguish the gunplay or aesthetics of the Underground from anything else in 'The Division'," High-Def Digest's Levi van Tine said. "Besides the Directives and ranking system, there is little new content in 'The Underground'."
The next expansion, "Survival," is supposed to offer "a completely new way to play the game," according to The Division Zone. If this proves to be true, then there is still hope for "The Division."
Will "Survival" finally deliver? We will find out when it comes out in Summer 2016.
