Will 'Gwent: The Witcher Card Game' Be Better Than 'Hearthstone'? Closed Beta Testing Moved To October
Jazz RosinCD Projekt Red will be moving the closed beta for its upcoming "The Witcher" spinoff title, "Gwent: The Witcher Card Game," to late October.
The standalone card game which was announced during Microsoft's press conference at the Electronic Entertainment Expo this year was originally slated for a September closed beta release date.
The news of the delay was announced by the indie developer studio on the official "Gwent" website.
"At E3 we announced that we'd launch the Closed Beta of 'Gwent: The Witcher Card Game' in September," the Gwent team wrote on the blog. "Unfortunately, we feel we need some extra time with the game before we hand it off to you for testing."
"We know we can make a first impression only once, and want to be sure everything is ready before we blast off," the developer added. "Delivering a good game is more important to us than keeping a deadline."
This statement shows that CD Projekt Red wants to ensure that they deliver a quality card game that can go against other established card games like Blizzard's "Hearthstone."
Fans have already started discussions about which game will come out on top, and currently the general public is torn between the two.
Some pointed out that the Gwent card game in "The Witcher 3" is too simple compared to the complex mechanics of "Hearthstone."
However, some, like IGN, have also said that Gwent is a much better game than Blizzard's card game. And this was even before the official standalone "Gwent" game is introduced.
Apart from "Hearthstone," there are other card games from giant game franchises to watch out for, like Bethesda's upcoming card game based on the massive "Elder Scrolls" universe, "The Elder Scrolls Legends."
Interested players can still register for the "Gwent: The Witcher Card Game" closed beta via the official website, and a playable demo will be available at this year's Gamescom, which runs from August 17 to 21.
