'Metal Gear Survive': Fans Angry At Game Without Kojima, Zombies Introduced
C. de LacyKonami once again draws flak from fans of the "Metal Gear" series that Hideo Kojima created with the out-of-nowhere reveal of "Metal Gear Survive." YouTube dislikes, community forums, and social media say a lot about it.
Recently announced at Gamescom, Konami showcased its post-Kojima Metal Gear game in the form of "Metal Gear Survive" trailer.
The game is scheduled to be released in 2017, but fans are quite enraged with what seemed to be an insult to the franchise that they loved for 20 long years as the top commenter stated on the official Gamescom 2016 reveal video below:
A lot of fans and non-fans alike are well-aware that Kojima, parted ways with Konami some time ago. The rights to the Metal Gear franchise was left with Konami, however.
"Metal Gear Survive" is the second "Metal Gear" game that doesn't feature either Solid Snake or Big Boss. The first one was "Metal Gear Rising: Revegeance," which starred Raiden, the protagonist for "Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty."
"Metal Gear Survive," on the other hand, stars unrecognizable characters, who are former members of Big Boss' military group before their Mother Base was destroyed on "Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes."
It is set in an alternate universe, wherein former Mother Base soldiers will have to come back home to their real world. The game is intended to play out like "Metal Gear Online," and is solely a multiplayer game.
What really surprised fans in a bad way was the introduction of zombies. Metal Gear is known for its stealth-driven action. Metal Gear Rising didn't have as much as the other game that had it, but it still did.
The Guardian also saw this move from Konami as an attempt to bring the same core multiplayer mechanics of "Metal Gear: Peacewalker" from PSP.
Fans don't see this anywhere near the "Metal Gear" games that they have loved and supported over the years. It didn't take long for the Internet to spawn thousands of memes about how they see Konami's upcoming "Metal Gear Survive" game as a bad joke.
