Early spoilers and predictions for "Fairy Tail" chapter 499 claimed that Juvia Lockser's death would apparently upset Gray Fullbuster as the latter thinks of her as more than a friend.

'Fairy Tail' Chapter 498 Recap

The previous chapter of "Fairy Tail" manga, as noted by ASZ News, started with an intense battle between Gray and Invel Yura. In an attempt to stir Gray's darkness, the protection guard of Emperor Spriggan placed an Ice Lock on both him and Juvia, making them his puppets.

Interestingly, the only noted method in releasing the lock is whether either Gray or Juvia perishes. Invel then compelled Gray to execute Juvia, citing that he needs him to awaken to the dark side to be a warrior that will defeat Etherious Natsu Dragneel (E.N.D).

Though the last chapter strongly hinted Juvia wanting to end her life than hurt Gray, spoilers for the upcoming chapter revealed a tragic fate for both of them.

"Zeref is the one to defeat Acnologia and take over the world, but E.N.D is an obstacle to that," said Invel, as translated by YonkouProductions.

The publication noted that Juvia and Gray will continue to battle each other in the upcoming chapter. The former tries to resist, as she presumably does not have any desire to hurt the latter. Much to Gray's surprise, Juvia will commit suicide in order to free him from the Ice Lock.

In an attempt to stop Juvia's plan, Gray discharged an Ice Blade attack, harming himself and Juvia. Both of them lay unmoving as Invel stands in shock.

Juvia will then apparently cast blood transfusion magic on Gray, stating that, "I'm living inside you, so I'm not sad because my life belongs to you." A series of flashback scenes of Gray interactions with Juvia will be seen.

Interestingly, Juvia's blood transfusion will get Gray recovered. It is believed that the enraged Gray will confront Invel, prompting a more intense battle between the two Ice Mages.

While nothing is impossible, the claims should still be taken with a grain of salt until the next "Fairy Tail" chapter is out.
