'Resident Evil 4' Review: How Well Does It Hold Up After All These Years And Remasters?

C. de Lacy

Originally released more than a decade ago, "Resident Evil 4" has seen numbers of remasters, while a lot of games were designed after its ingenious non-center third person camera angle for optimized shooting experience. Now, how well did the game age?

Several reviews from Metacritic showed a solid statement that "Resident Evil 4" has gracefully aged and is still worth getting.

Below is a brief look at how the game looks like on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Be sure to select at least 720p or 1080p to see the full detail:

PlayStation Universe

As expected, there isn't that much content that players can really milk out from a game that is released more than a decade ago. Not a lot of people may find the incentive to buy it, with a little exception from the few gamers and fans.

While the visual detail is still impressive on today's standards, the graphical polish still shows the age of the textures that was either just upscaled and not re-textured.

The controls are also an extreme throwback to the modern scheme that most players are already used with these days. Good thing that Capcom included a somewhat modern controller layout to cater to modern gamers of this age.

Gaming Age

Gaming Age also gave "Resident Evil 4" a perfect score of 100/100. The PS4 and Xbox One version of "Resident Evil 4" pretty much looked like the Ultimate HD Edition for the PC.

Nothing new was really included in the bundle that any fan might have missed. All the released add-ons like Ada Wong's 5-chapter epilogue missions is included plus a number of extra modes like Mercenaries.

Still, for the price of $19.20, revisiting the game is a no-brainer especially for hardcore fans of the series.

Gaming Bolt

Without a doubt for Gaming Bolt, "Resident Evil 4" could still be the best game in the series and it's all thanks to its atmosphere and the overall gameplay experience.

For those who have not played the game yet, "Resident Evil 4" somewhat bids farewell to "fetching" quests where players have to pick up items and go back and forth from one place to another.

The game felt more linear and fast paced and this has been the suit that the subsequent titles that followed. The first game in the series focused more on action and less on jump scares. Some fans before were enraged with this drastic change, but eventually embraced the context afterwards up to "Resident Evil 6."

"Resident Evil 4" may still hold the crown as the best game in the series, but fans are yet to see "Resident Evil 7" and how it goes back to the franchise's roots. However, in terms of action and story, "Resident Evil 4" is golden even by today's standards.
