'Dead Space 4': Did EA Finally Pull The Plug On Sequel? Lack Of Updates Spark Cancellation Fears
J RoseElectronic Arts and Visceral Studios are both silent on the highly anticipated follow-up to their third-person shooter "Dead Space," sparking rumors about its cancellation.
"Dead Space" fans have not heard about anything from EA and Visceral about the next entry in the series for years. The official "Dead Space" Twitter account is, literally, a dead space since 2013, and there has been no signs of the game ever coming for quite a while now.
The sequel has already caused a stir three years ago, when rumors of cancellation circulated online. Videogamer has reported, via a source said to be familiar with the "Dead Space 4" project, that EA has ceased development on the game due to "Dead Space 3" not hitting its 5 million target to keep the franchise alive. This was ultimately denied by EA.
"While we have not announced sales of Dead Space 3, we are proud of the game and the franchise remains an important IP to EA." EA said in a statement at the time.
Visceral has also expressed their desire to continue the development of "Dead Space 4" in an interview with GamesTM (via Cinemablend) last year.
"Many, many people here at Visceral have a warm spot in their heart for Dead Space, and right now we're busy with Hardline and...other things," Visceral Games general manager Steve Papoutsis said, "but it's definitely something we'd love to look at again."
"There's definitely a lot of interest internally for us to pick that up again at a future date." Papoutsis added.
Visceral is currently working on an upcoming "Star Wars" game and supporting "Battlefield Hardline," so fans should not hold their breath for "Dead Space 4," according to Neurogadget.
Despite the lack of updates, "Dead Space 4" is still happening, as far as EA and Visceral are concerned. As for the release date, we could safely say that it won't be coming anytime soon.
