'Star Wars: Battlefront' is Not Totally Dead; Other Updates Will Still Come But Not Skirmish Content

Electronic Art announced that there will be no more Skirmish content for "Star Wars: Battlefront," but the developer is not totally turning its back on the shooter game. Community manager Mat Everett announced that support and updates intended to make the 2015 game better will still pour in.

Everett stressed that Skirmish is a major element of the game, but outside its parameter lies several other support that players need, which include bugs fixes and enhancements. Only time can tell what other things EA can bring into "Star Wars: Battlefront," Kotaku assessed.

Several players observed that "Star Wars: Battlefront" might have been a victim of its own rapid development. The game simply took more that it can chew, and 2016 witnessed its drastic expansion. There are new characters, maps, modes and weapons that trickled into the game substantially. In fact, four expansion packs that include Bespin, Death Star, Outer Rim and Rouge One: Scarif came almost all at once.

Another potential reason is EA's decision to release the next "Star Wars: Battlefront" game sometime this 2017. The upcoming game features the much-requested solo gameplay plus contents from every Star Wars timeline. Comparably, the current game only has gist of contents from "Rogue One" and other movie versions, GameSpot said.

If reports are true, every timeline spanning from prequel to post-"Return of the Jedi" are going to be in the new "Battlefront." Gamers simply hope that the next "Star Wars" game can offer a deeper experience as opposed to the current game. Loose timeline is probably the biggest drawback for the current game albeit successful release in 2015, with 14 million copies sold.

EA boss Andrew Wilson teased that the "Star Wars: Battlefront" sequel is going to be the biggest in the franchise so far. It makes sense because the game is a joint venture among top developers Criterion, DICE and Motive Studios. EA is going to be the publisher one it hits the road, presumably for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
