Tesla Model 3 Rumors: Electric Car To Sport Next-Gen 100D Battery Pack?
Dheeraj RThe latest rumors on the Tesla Model 3 suggested that the electric vehicle might sport an enhanced battery codenamed as 100D. Reports claimed that Tesla recently produced the new set of battery, which is expected to help to improve the overall performance of Tesla's upcoming car models.
Green Car Reports stated that Tesla is set to introduce the new battery in the Model S Sedan and Model X cars, based on the official announcement. Should the next-gen 100D battery technology is included in the Tesla Model 3, it will provide the users with boosted car performance.
Reports suggested that the new battery cells are expected to be 70 mm high with the 21 mm diameter compared to the current cells structure of 65 mm high and 18 mm in diameter.
"The cell is the same as in previous versions of the electric cars," said Tesla CEO Elon Musk, as reported by Electrek. "But the module and pack architecture is changed significantly in order to achieve adequate cooling of the cells in a more energy dense pack and to make sure we don't have cell combustion propagation."
Furthermore, it is reported that the new 100D battery will provide the Tesla Model 3 with increased energy capacity of 11 percent. According to the Tesla's chief technology officer, JB Straubel said that the newly developed battery will sport entirely different module architecture and cells.
Besides, Straubel said that the 100D batteries will feature enhanced cooling system, which will help the company deliver its Model 3 users with a high-level battery performance.
Meanwhile, BGR reported that the upcoming Tesla Model 3 is expected to face some serious competition from Chevrolet's new 2017 Chevy Bolt. The new car will reportedly provide the drivers with 238 miles of range with just a single charge. This range is stated to be around 23 more miles than that of the Tesla Model 3's 215 miles of range.
Another difference between the two electric cars is their price range. The new Chevy Bolt is expected to be priced for $37,500, whereas the Tesla Model 3 will carry a price tag of $35,000.
Despite the stringent competition, the Model 3 is rumored to defeat the Bolt EV with its sleeker look and flat framework at the front. The car will also sport the Autopilot and Supercharger options for providing the users with excellent hassle-free driving experience.
