While there has been numerous rumors regarding The Pirate Bay going down. Fortunately for avid users of the popular torrent site, TPG is still alive and considered to be the best torrent site around, but will Google and Mozilla change these?
Still, at the top of its game, The Pirate Bay is, by far, still the best torrent site around compared with other torrent sites. Despite others going down, TPB still remains standing, but with the recent move from Google may reduce the traffic for the site.
For most ISPs in different countries, visiting the site's main page should be fine right now as it shows here. This has been noticed by both Trusted Reviews and DigitalMusic News as well.
However, making any search and clicking any of the results as shown here (we used "Max Payne" as a search query) will return a warning.
Recently, Google starting showing warnings on both Chrome and Mozilla that the site contains malicious software. Accessing any torrent file while browsing the site now shows the image above, which could be a bit of a problem for those simply trying to download torrents.
There's no exception for this and even relatively safe files are affected.
The website itself is not blocked, but browsing individual torrents leads to a warning page, which leaves people browsing not much of a choice, but to "go back to safety" unless they know the workaround it.
Even with the glaring "Back to safety" button stands on the warning, click "DETAILS" will bring the user an option to proceed regardless of the warning. This is thru clicking "visit this site."
In fact, even without the warning, most users are already aware of the fact that there are chances where the torrent files will be infected. It only takes enough care to know which are the safe torrents from those which aren't by observing the comments section.
Still, unlike what most news sites prattle about, The Pirate Bay is still up and the warning barely poses any threat to the website's existence at all. Compared to a number of other torrent sites which doesn't show this warning, knowing the reliable sources from TPB is still safer.
A quick answer to the question of whether The Pirate Bay hosts infected and malicious software is a yes, but this could easily be avoided by careful selection of downloads and by referring to the sites community.
