'Gear of War 4' Review: Was It Better Than The Games It Followed?
C. de LacyJust recently released, "Gears of War 4" boasts a lot of features that no other first person shooter on either Xbox One or PlayStation 4 had. Was it as amazing as the other games from the "Gears" series?
Now available on Xbox One and PC, "Gears of War 4" picks up the brilliant pieces that were present with the previous games in the series. Getting a high Metascore of 86 isn't something fans and gamers should be surprised about, but here are some notable bite-sized excerpts from various game review sites.
According to IGN, "Gears of War 4" is a game that didn't explore that much "innovation" with its mechanics. However, the game offers a lot of variety through its campaign alone. Multiplayer also had its own charm, which warrants extreme longevity.
IGN also puts a lot of emphasis to the game's graphical eye-candy. The weather, specifically the Windflare, was one of the game's most stunning sights to behold.
While some may find it odd that the developers decided to lock the game on 30 fps for the single player campaign, the multiplayer modes have varying frame rates. The Versus mode runs at a locked 60 fps, which is another eye-candy for the game.
Aiming was made quite easy with "Gears of War 4" and the review site even thinks that this game might even be better in terms of mechanics compared to "Halo 5" despite being a third person shooter.
The Horde3.0 mode is another multiplayer mode, which is locked at 30 fps, but is still equally impressive. This pits cooperating players against, well, hordes of enemies.
For Gaming Age, "Gears of War 4" is a perfect third person shooting experience and it is. Despite the slightly short campaign, there were no dull moments and the graphics and story are equally great. It still felt like the rest of the other games, but it still managed to feel like an entirely new game.
There's also minimal to no technical issues or bugs in-game as the reviewer, just like the rest of the online gaming community and review sites, have experienced. The game needs a bit of processing muscle to be run on a mid spec'd PC, but it runs perfectly on the Xbox One.
For those who haven't gotten "Gears of War 4," especially on Xbox One, we could safely say that these people are missing a lot.
