Fujifilm X-T2 vs Sony A650 Review: Which Is The Better Mirrorless Camera?
C. de LacyTwo different cameras from two different manufacturers, the Fujifilm X-T2 and the Sony A6500 are one of the best mirrorless cameras around. While both cameras produce great quality stills and videos, which one is the better choice?
Both cameras have an APS-C sensor with almost little difference in terms of sizes. TheX-T2 has a 24.3 megapixel sensor while the a6500 has 24.2 megapixels. Both cameras are very capable of capturing clear and bright images even in low light conditions.
Both cameras are also capable of capturing 4K videos, which is starting to be the new norm of high quality video recording nowadays. Both also have great autofocusing systems, despite being different.
However, the X-T2 gets an advantage in terms of shutter speed. It has a max shutter speed of 1/32000. This is extremely fast compared to Sony's maximum shutter speed of 1/4000, but such speeds are not really that applicable on every scenario.
Another advantage that the X-T2 has is how the titling screen is implemented. Compared to Sony a6500's two-way tilting screen, X-T2 can also be tilted sideways, making it possible for even more hard angle shots as shown here.
In terms of controls, the X-T2 also gets an even bigger advantage against the a6500 due to its lack of manual external controls. Fujifilm's mirrorless feels more intuitive and faster, which most professionals would prefer and its all thanks to its external dials that almost controls every important settings of the camera.
However, one feature that sets the X-T2 apart from the rest of the mirrorless options including the Sony A6500 is the SLR-like design with the viewfinder placed at eye-level. It is even larger than most, which makes it perfect for bright scenarios.
Finally, there's the dual memory card slot feature that make the X-T2 more advantageous and in fact, a lot safer, especially on cases that the memory card fails. This is a nice addition on top of the doubled storage capacity.
Sony's a6500 body only are priced around $1,399.99 on Amazon right now and is available for pre-order. It will start shipping on December 6, 2016. The Fujifilm X-T2, on the other side, is still slightly more expensive with the price tag of $1,699.99 for the body only.
If the $300 difference is enough to justify all the advantages that the Fujifilm X-T2 over Sony's, we highly suggest that consumers would go for it. Still, that's not to say that the Sony A6500 isn't a great snapper and the price tag is all worth it.
