'Narcos' Season 3 To Feature Gilberto As The New Pablo Escobar? Is The Cali Cartel The Main Villain?
Michelle Guanzon"Narcos" season 3 is set to return mid-2017 with major plot changes. For one, the Cali Cartel takes center stage as the main villain of the upcoming season, while Damian Alcazar, portraying Gilberto, is reportedly set to replace Pablo Escobar in the limelight.
While many have thought that "Narcos" season 2 was going to be the last, the Netflix hit series has been renewed for two more seasons. Fans know that Pablo Escobar died in 1993, which means that his end is inevitable in the last season.
While saying goodbye to Pablo Escobar, "Narcos" season 3 will focus on a new villain in the representation of the Cali Cartel.
According to one report, following the end of Escobar's leadership in drug trade, a new villain has been spoiled to put some spice on the next season. As teased in the latest trailer, Pablo Escobar faded out while Gilberto Rodriguez Orejuela faded in.
According to speculations, this means that the Cali Cartel will be led by Gilberto alongside his brothers Miguel and Pacho.
Regarding the replacement of Pablo with Gilberto, showrunner Eric Newman provided clues to what will happen in the next season.
"We don't want to replace Pablo Escobar. We are going to look deeper into the systemic effects within Colombia of cocaine and corruption," Newman reportedly said.
"Unlike Escobar, who had positioned himself as an outlaw, Cali was very much a part of the system," he said about the new but different kind of villain. "While Escobar was a single-cell organism, they were a complex, multicelled organism."

While Newman confirmed that Gilberto will be a big part of season 3, there are four Cali godfathers in play: Rodriguez brothers Gilberto and Miguel (Francisco Denis), Pacho Herrera (Alberto Ammann) and a fourth named "Chepe" who has yet to enter the "Narcos" universe.
"Narcos" season 3 is expected to hit Netflix by August or September, 2017.
