Bethesda May Not Bring 'Skyrim' To Nintendo Switch After All, Here's Why
J RoseNintendo's mystery console, officially named Nintendo Switch, was finally unveiled after months of rumors and speculations.
The much awaited announcement trailer featured tons of games, including the critically acclaimed "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," a new "Super Mario" platformer, and third-person shooter "Splatoon." But what caught the attention of many is the appearance of Bethesda's popular game, "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim."
Unfortunately, Bethesda dashed the hopes of "Skyrim" fans by announcing that the game is not officially a Nintendo Switch title yet.
"We're happy to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Nintendo on the video," a spokesperson for Bethesda told Games Industry. "While we are not confirming any specific titles at this time, we are pleased to announce our partnership with Nintendo and support of the Switch."
Fans who were hyped about the idea of playing the popular role-playing game while on the go were sorely disappointed about Bethesda's announcement. Some has speculated that Bethesda was not ready to announce the title just yet, and may eventually bring the remastered version to Switch soon.
However, there is also a possibility that "Skyrim" won't be released on Switch after all. According to Kotaku, the same issues were spotted when Nintendo launched its other systems previously.
Take the Nintendo Wii U, for example. When Nintendo revealed it in 2011, the announcement trailer, as posted above, showed "Bioshock" designer Ken Levine talking about the upcoming console. He eventually didn't make any games for it.
The trailer also featured games like "Ghost Recon Online," Aliens Colonial Marines," and "Metro Last Light," all of which were not even released on Wii U. This may be the same outcome for "Skyrim" on the Nintendo Switch, so fans should not hold their breath for a portable "Skyrim" port anytime soon.
Despite showing a huge list of third-party publishers supporting the Switch, none has made any announcements about which games will be coming to the new console. Fans may not get "Skyrim" on the Nintendo Switch, but watch out for more updates about other potential titles here.
