Solana's New Crypto Phone, Chapter 2, Propels Accessibility Beyond Desktops
Gio FarleySolana, a prominent blockchain network, has unveiled its Chapter 2 smartphone. Led by Steven Laver, a seasoned software engineer with extensive experience in mobile development, Solana aims to liberate crypto from desktop confines and challenge the dominance of tech giants like Apple and Google in the mobile phone industry.
Steven Laver, a 43-year-old software engineer, has a very rich experience working at BlackBerry and Microsoft and participated in such breakthrough projects as the BlackBerry and Windows Phone app store. However, starting his crypto journey only in early 2022, Laver is now leading Solana Labs' big undertaking of incorporating blockchain features in handheld devices.
Laver expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "This has that big, sky's the limit energy. This feels like madness, but at the same time, this feels like the end result."
Solana with Chapter 2 smartphone is a progressive movement forward in the development of a cryptocurrency-based mobile device. The gadget is expected for release in January 2025 and has been popular in pre-orders, reaching $65 million in value.
The dependency of these gadgets on industry goliaths like Apple and Samsung dominates the current market situation, which Chapter 2 seeks to transform through offering unparalleled access and control of the users' digital assets.
60,000 preorders and counting…

Chris Lewis, an independent telecoms analyst with over 40 years of experience, says this is audacious, noting, "It's a tough, tough ask. " While many centralized platforms might regard Solana's decision to venture into manufacturing of hardware as unreasonable, the idea was a clear signal that the platform sought to liberate users in an industry riddled with control by these platforms.
Emmett Hollyer, head of business development and operations at Solana Labs, emphasized the necessity of mobile integration for crypto's scalability, stating, "Crypto must liberate itself from the desktop if it's to scale."

Solana's previous foray into mobile technology with the Solana Saga provided invaluable insights. Despite falling short of its initial sales target, the integration of memecoins like BONK proved to be a successful marketing strategy.
Laver acknowledged the impact of memecoins, stating, "Blockchain is just a little different... putting a real physical product, that is well integrated, in people's hands, that's why I do this."
Some of the features include the seed vault for storing crypto seed phrases securely, and the Solana Mobile Stack, a set of tools that allow developers to design crypto apps specifically for the smartphone, dubbed Chapter 2. Despite sharing some similarities with Ethereum, Solana is attempting to disrupt the current duopoly of the App Store and Google's Play Marketplace by allowing application developers to operate with lesser fees and fewer restrictions.
This is due to the adoption of memecoins and Solana's mission to support developers which has provoked much anticipation among crypto enthusiasts. Solana's Chapter 2 is a Smartphone that brings a brick and mortar technology in mobilism closer to decentralized blockchain technologies such as Cryptocurrencies and Decentralized Finance.
In the words of Laver, "We're just starting to get to this point where developers are starting to see the value of building for a phone like Saga."
Solana's Chapter 2 smartphone is the revolution of chapter 2 of mobile technological advancement where crypto IG and crypto are brought into mainstream. In terms of mobility, architecture, and decentralization, the new reality depicted in Solana promises a revolution in the mobile connectivity and blockchain domains.
