The much-awaited sequel to "Deadpool" might be heading into trouble as director Tim Miller announces his departure from the upcoming film's production on Friday.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the director, who had "Deadpool" as his feature film directing debut, will no longer be part of the production for "Deadpool 2." Miller has reportedly quit due to a series of creative differences between the lead actor and producer Ryan Reynolds.

While the exact reason was not specified, sources say that the two men had a "contentious relationship" for a long time, and has barely spoken to each other after the first "Deadpool" movie was launched, The Wrap reported.

The publication also reported that Miller and Reynolds have not seen eye to eye regarding the movie's direction. The former director was said to want to have a "stylized" sequel while the "Green Lantern" star wishes to retain its comedic, R-rated charm.

Reynolds, who also has creative control over the film, was also said to clash with Miller over casting choices, particularly for time-travelling mutant Cable. The director favored "Bloodline" actor Kyle Chandler to take the role. Reynolds was reportedly not happy with it.

Miller's departure will definitely be a huge blow for the upcoming film. The director was responsible for all the polishing work on the first "Deadpool," being an accomplished visual effects artist himself. 

Now 20th Century Fox has a huge decision to make: will they give the spot to another budding director, or to someone who already has enough experience in movies? This decision will ultimately decide the fate of the sequel and the future of the series.

While the director's chair will remain empty for now, Fox confirmed that scriptwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will still be on board for the sequel.

Apart from Cable, Fox is also set to introduce his love interest Domino in the next film, according to Comicbook.com. The studio is now reportedly choosing among a short list of actresses, which includes "Scott Pilgrim vs .The World" actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead and "Now You See Me 2"'s Lizzy Caplan.

"Deadpool 2" is scheduled for a 2017 release, although no exact dates were set at the moment.
