Deadpool 2: Pierce Brosnan As Cable, Confirmed? Fans Question Casting Choice
Rei LantionThe post-credit scene in the first "Deadpool" movie didn't so much tease the audience about the potential sequel but it did a pretty huge name drop. Lead star Ryan Reynolds himself confirmed that Marvel character Cable would make it into the sequel.
The actual actor for the role has yet to be confirmed but dozens of fan speculations and theories have flooded the internet since then. Now, it's looking like former Special Agent 007 Pierce Brosnan may be playing Deadpool's telepathic cyborg buddy.
According to We Got This Covered, the spark behind the rumor for Pierce Brosnan's involvement with the sequel started with a photo. Reynold's posted a picture Hugh Jackman, Pierce Brosnan and himself doing the classic "hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil" pose.
His caption was simple, "Wolvie. Bond. Wade." Hugh Jackman posted a similar picture of the three of them and tagged it #wolverinebonddeadpool.
The pictures have understandably started a wildfire. Talks of a Wolverine-"Deadpool" crossover hit the internet, along with fans speculating Brosnan would be playing Cable. The newest episode of Meet the Movie Press seems to have confirmed it, with reporter Simon Thompson reiterating his chat with "Deadpool 2" director David Leitch.
According to Screen Rant, Thompson evidently congratulated Leitch for bringing Brosnan on, to which Leitch replied, "We have not, yet." While this may not seem like much, Mashable's Jeff Sneider has also had something to say.
According to We Got This Covered, Sneider apparently commented, "Justin can't say anything, but, yeah, I've heard it's going to be him." The Justin he's referring to is Variety's Justin Kroll.
Despite Reynold's evident excitement to have Brosnan on, some fans have already expressed their dissatisfaction with the casting choice. Some argue that Brosnan would be better suited to play Mister Sinister (another Marvel villain) rather than Cable. Others say they are not convinced, stating Brosnan is not fit for the character in terms of physical features and basing off previous roles.
However, with just a few interesting pictures, two lines of dialogue and nothing else, Pierce Brosnan as Cable remains an unofficial casting announcement. Will former Special Agent 007 translate well into a telepathic mutant/cyborg? Let us know what you think of the casting choice!
