'Skyrim: Special Edition' Xbox One vs PS4: Which One Should You Get?

Bethesda will be launching the remastered version of "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" to consoles in a few days, and those who have both a PS4 and an Xbox One are now conflicted as to which version of "Skyrim: Special Edition" to buy ahead of its release.

While both versions for "Skyrim: Special Edition" are breathtakingly beautiful, only one element has made the decision easier: mods.

For most people, mods are an essential feature in "Skyrim." Fans would probably be turned off by the fact that the PS4 version only allows up to 1GB worth of mods for "Skyrim: Special Edition," as announced on an FAQ for the game on the Bethesda website.

This is a major disappointment for fans of both "Skyrim" and modding. Adding to the disappointment of PS4 owners is the fact that the Xbox One mod storage for "Skyrim: Special Edition" is five times bigger than the PS4 version.

Not that the PS4 version has a wide array of mods to choose from, anyway. At the moment, Bethesda has started accepting mod submissions for both consoles. As of this writing (Oct. 25, 4:45 p.m. PT) the PS4 mod library has a measly 11 mods to choose from, compared to Xbox One's 69 mod count.

None of the mods on the PS4 is unique to the console so far, as all the mods on the PS4 library are also available on the Xbox One.

As explained by Bethesda, the reason why Xbox One owners got the better deal when it comes to mods for "Skyrim: Special Edition" is due to the fact that uploading external assets on the PS4 is not allowed by Sony, something that the developer has no control over.

One can remember that Bethesda encountered the same issues with console mod support for its other popular game, "Fallout 4."

At the moment, until Sony changes its stand on external assets, the Xbox One version of "Skyrim: Special Edition" is your best bet if mods are of utmost importance to your gaming experience.
