'No Man's Sky' Update No More Hope For The Game After Losing Its Player Base? Popularity Drops An All-Time Low
J RoseIt looks like there is very little hope for open world space exploration game "No Man's Sky," as more and more players continue to drop the game from their list.
One player, MatteAce, has compiled a series of charts comparing how "No Man's Sky" performed against other Triple A titles on Steam, based on the game's player base during its first month of release.
While "No Man's Sky" performed exceedingly well during its launch day, with over 200,000 people playing the game, its player base sharply dropped all throughout the month.
The game was compared to popular titles like "The Witcher 3," Dark Souls 3," "Doom" and "Fallout 4." While these games had a smaller turnout on launch day compared to "No Man's Sky" (except for "Fallout 4" which had more than double of "No Man's Sky"'s player count at launch at over 450,000), the titles have obviously had more players a month after their respective releases.
As of this writing, Oct. 25 5:30 PM PT, a quick peek onto "No Man's Sky" SteamDB info reveals that there's only around 500 people still playing the game, peaking at only around 1,000 people on Steam this week.
"No Man's Sky" has an "overwhelmingly negative" review rating on Steam, getting only 31 per cent positive reviews as of press time.
All this negativity towards the game stemmed from developer Hello Games giving false expectations about the game prior to launch. The developer studio, with Sean Murray at the helm, has been quite successful stirring hype for the game ever since it was first launched.
However, the final game is not exactly what the developer has described, and even President of Sony's Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida blamed the indie studio for building up unrealistic expectations about "No Man's Sky" before launch.
Meanwhile, Hello Games' social media accounts remain silent, leaving players wondering if there is still hope for the once promising space exploration game.
Stay tuned for more "No Man's Sky" news.
