'Batman: Return To Arkham' Review: How It Compares With The Originals; Is The Game Worth It?
C. de LacyThe re-release of two Batman games "Arkham Asylum" and "Arkham City" finally happened; and while there's a lot of expectations that came along with them, "Batman: Return to Arkham" met only a handful of incentives for fans to take another shot.
First, a video of how the differences show between the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions of both "Batman: Arkham Asylum" and "Batman: Arkham City" with "Batman: Return to Arkham."
The lighting model and the textures are definitely improved, especially close up. Even with uncostumed characters like the Penguin got an extremely nice visual flair upgrade as observed from the textures. Same thing applies with Catwoman's tight leather suit.
These graphical improvement isn't just limited with character models. They are also evident with almost the entire facet of the game from mere floors, sky, buildings and just about everywhere the players will look at.
And with all honesty, that's where it all ends in terms of aesthetics. Several reports with the game's final product indicates that "Batman: Return to Arkham" still suffers from a number of occasional frame rate jumps.
One such, from Video Gamer, states that the game's frame rate is wobblier than the original releases for the PlayStation 3, despite the power of the PlayStation 4. Optimization isn't one of the best departments that the remastering job, "Batman: Return to Arkham" went through.
Also, while the game aimed to be on its "highest definition," the murkiness that added flavor to both the games was gone as well as some character faces looking "wrong" due to cranked lighting and polygon count possibly.
The one saving grace that "Batman: Return to Arkham" has is its complete set of contents for both the games. This means everything else bundled in a single package. This is great for those who missed the opportunity to get the game on their original releases, but it may take a bit more of motivation for those who have once experienced the greatness of the originals.
