'No Man's Sky' Update: Sony Blames Media For Setting False Expectations About Multiplayer
J RoseIn another controversial statement related to open world space exploration game "No Man's Sky," Sony is now pointing fingers at publications for setting false expectations regarding its multiplayer feature.
This accusation was reported by Pixel Vulture, who received this response from the gaming company giant over "No Man's Sky" refunds.
Following massive uproar from the community about Hello Games not delivering on its promises during "No Man's Sky"'s pre-release marketing campaign, the site tested the refund system for the game.
Citing "no multiplayer" despite otherwise being told and shown by the developers, the actual product looking completely different from trailers, and "false advertising" in general, Pixel Vulture sent off the refund request two weeks ago. The publication was denied the refund, with Sony sending this final response:
We have double checked with the relevant team: In the description it always said 1 player, but it was portrayed in the media that it might have it.
There was no mention of multiplayer within the product description on the PlayStation Store.
The email further stated that no refunds were due as the game was already downloaded.
Fans are now fuming over this accusation, as Sean Murray himself noted in several interviews that they can "encounter other players" in the game.
This is not the first "No Man's Sky" related news linked to Sony this month. Last week, players have been complaining that the company has blocked them off from contacting the Playstation Network support chat after their refunds were processed.
"Apparently it now seems that myself and others can't access PSN Support chat for absolutely anything because Sony seems to have blocked off our IDs from support chat," NEOGaf forum user Admiral Woofington posted. "Trying with a made up ID takes us to chat. All of us seem to have the same situation of having previously requested a refund or a cancellation."
The company, however, denied that bans were given out to Playstation Network users.
"We definitely don't ban people from any support channels (whether they have or haven't had a refund)," Sony told Gadgets 360 in response to their email.
