Fans are already excited for the fourth installment of the "Divergent Series" entitled "The Divergent Series: Ascendant." However, this excitement was spoiled when Lionsgate reportedly planned to wrap up the science fiction with a television movie and a spinoff series. Moreover, the original cast including Shailene Woodley and Theo James are rumored to be not willing to reprise their roles if this happens.

According to Variety, negotiations are already in the early stages, but instead of having the movie open in theaters next year, the studio opted to wrap up the film series on the small screen. That would then segue into a standalone television series set in the same post-apocalyptic world.

The report added that the studio initially planned to release it on cinemas on June 2017 but since the "Allegiant" stumbled when it hit theatres last spring, they rethink that strategy.

To recall, the first two "Divergent" films were box office hits, but the most recent chapter, "Allegiant," was not.

Many people including die-hard fans were shocked with the studio's decision. In addition, Shailene Woodley, who portrayed the role of Beatrice Prior, does not want to participate on the said TV series but wanted to end the science fiction through film as what they have signed up for.

"I didn't sign up to be in a television show," the actress said during an interview. "Out of respect to the studio and everyone in involved, they may have changed their mind and may be doing something different, but I'm not necessarily interested in doing a television show."

Miles Teller, who played the role of Peter, recently hesitated to participate in the said "Divergent" TV spin-off series.

"When we all signed on for the first one we had every intention of finishing it theatrically," the actor said. "We signed on for x amount of movies and you take that all into consideration. We wanted to see that storyline finish. You know, it's moving into a different format. So who knows?"

For now, Shailene Woodley's on-screen partner Theo James has kept mum about the issue.
